Gus Smyrnios is an American television personality, model and painter. He is best known as one of the main cast members on the 2017 MTV reality show Floribama Shore.

Gus is a Southern charmer who wears his heart on his sleeve. His on-again, off-again fling with Nilsa and confrontations with his one-time best friend Jeremiah has often led to awkward moments among the roommates. Though he can be a hothead, deep down, Gus is sensitive and expects and appreciates loyalty from his friends.

Season 1[]

Gus is a 23 year old Florida native who comes into the PCB beach house looking to get wife'd up. He hits it off with everyone in the house. He's instantly attracted to Nilsa but his flirtatious atittude with other women annoys her. The roommates open up about their pasts over a family dinner, with Gus revealing he was kicked out of his home at 17. The next day, Gus asks Nilsa out on a date. She accepts, though their date doesn't go well as she realizes he wants something serious and she doesn't. They don't kiss on the date and Gus get his feelings hurt. He complains to Jeremiah and Kirk that night that he spent $150 on the date.

Gus starts making friends with the other guys in the house, especially Jeremiah and Kirk. He decides "Savage Gus" is back now that he's had his heart broken by Nilsa. He meets a girl named Ellen and falls for her in two days...even though she lives in Nashville. He tells Jeremiah he wants to be with girls who aren't "disrespectful little bitches." A massive fight on dollar draft beer night brings the roommates closer, as they fight drunk red necks for each other.

Things don't stay calm for long. Jeremiah invites his summer fling Kayla Jo to come over. Codi tells Nilsa and Candace that she's Wiccan and the girls make a big deal over it. Jeremiah and warns him about the others being judgmental over Kayla Jo being Wiccan. It's mainly Nilsa and Aimee. Gus isn't going to judge anyone for what they believe. He suggests Jeremiah call it out, which Kortni supports. During a family meeting, Gus tries to make the point that Nilsa is to blame for judging and hating on Kayla Jo. Aimee intervenes to defend Nilsa and they end up in a heated argument. She calls him disrespectful and he follows the girls outside to ask how he's being disrespectful. Gus takes it seriously and is offended by Aimee's comment that he, or any of the other guys, talk about getting "thots" at the club. He gets emotional over it because of how he grew up. Kirk thinks Gus is the most respectful one in the house. Gus tries hard not to be disrespectful. Aimee apologizes and things seemingly repair between Gus and the roommates.

While out at Newby's, a guy calls Gus the F-slur and Gus steps up immediately. Security breaks up the fight and he sits with his roommates. Candace hates the slur and confronts the men. When she learns which of the friends did it, she knocks his hat off. The guy steps up to Candace, so Kirk throws a punch. A fight breaks out.

Season 2[]

Season 3[]

Season 4[]

After the previous season wrapped, Gus headed back to the apartment he shared with Jeremiah, only to find his stuff packed up and ready for him to move out. Gus was pissed and aired his grievance on social media, causing more tension between him and Jeremiah. He claimed he had nowhere to go, but he was able to find somewhere to stay for the time being.

He eventually got his own house secluded in the woods, and he's a bit envious of his younger brother for being married already. He longed for a happy relationship like his brother's and being on lockdown due to the pandemic isn't helping.

Relationships[]

Jeremiah[]

Jeremiah and Gus were fast friends when they moved into the shore house. They had similar personalities and loved to have fun together. They bonded over their mutual love of fitness. They became best friends and did almost everything together. They called each other brothers and had one of the most iconic bromances in the franchise, rivaled only by Pauly D and Vinny from Jersey Shore. They also lived together in Arizona between season two and three along with Jeremiah's brother. Unfortunately, the pair had a falling out that started in Season 3 and continued for the remainder of the series. While they had moments of less contention in the last few episodes of that season, they never fully repaired their friendship.

Things got worse between Season 3 and 4 when off-screen drama took place between them. Gus was on a trip when their falling out occurred. He said he was done living with the brothers so Jeremiah evicted Gus from their house together. Jeremiah gave him a week to move out, though he and Josh packed Gus's stuff in trash bags before Gus got back. He even got a new roommate by the time Gus was back because he "wasn't gonna let a room go to waste." Gus Instagram-lived the eviction. He lived in his car for a bit after. Jeremiah said during the fourth season that Gus was two months behind on rent, which contributed to the eviction. Gus was upset because Josh had totaled his car while he was away and he, nor Jeremiah, paid for the tow or repairs. More drama took place with the VMA's room situation after season 3. Jeremiah felt he was cheated out of experiencing it because of Gus - even though Jeremiah didn't pay for his share of the room.

They were reunited for the first time since the off-season drama at the start of Season 4, when the cast was in lockdown. The boys fought more than once - mostly instigated by Gus. They agreed their friendship was ruined forever. The boys do not currently follow each other on social media and have not publicly interacted since the series conclusion in 2021.

Kortni[]

The two had a strong sibling-like relationship and had each other's backs several times.

Nilsa[]

Gus and Nilsa, commonly known as "Gilsa", have a long history together that began when they moved into the beach house. They had a crush on each other, though Gus looked to settle down while Nilsa just wanted to have fun. She pursued their other roommate and Gus's closest guy friend Jeremiah instead. Gus was hurt that Nilsa blew him off after he paid for their date. In Season 2, they entered the beach house as opposites from last summer - she wanted to settle down and he wanted to party. They had a friends-with-benefits relationship for a while.

Throughout the first three seasons, the two went back and forth on whether or not they were going to be together. This ended for good when Nilsa arrived pregnant in the fourth season.

Codi[]

Gus and Codi became friends in the later half of season one, as they brought out the silly side in one another. Codi often had Gus' back in many situations, even if Gus was in the wrong. Codi was the only Floribama Shore cast member at Gus's 2021 wedding.

Candace[]

Candace and Gus became closer in Season 2, but they had disagreements because of their different views on life. They stuck up for each other multiple times. However in Season 4, Gus took Candace’s hairdryer without permission, causing a fight between them. This fight led to Gus fleeing the house and going missing, causing a search party. They sort of patched things up when Gus returned, but they bumped heads again while in Georgia. Candace felt Gus ignored her and didn’t actually like her, but he begged a differ. She was also upset about Gus' sister threatening to beat her up when he went missing in Montana. They eventually squash their beef and wiped the slate clean.

Whatever friendship they had seemed to dissolve due to some off-screen drama between them that played out on social media. Gus accused Candace of being the most "racist person in the house".

Kirk[]

Kirk and Gus have one of the quieter, yet closest, friendships in the series. Their friendship was at its strongest in Season 1 when they bonded over their similar troubled backgrounds. Kirk once said that when they talked, it was meaningful conversations. He and Gus quickly knew they would be "bros for life." They saw the world similarly and had each other's backs.

Aimee[]

Gua and Aimee's friendship started out rough and did not get along with each other. One of their fights escalated to Aimee throwing punches at Gus. Things stayed heated between them for awhile until they were able to talk it out.

At one point in the third season, Aimee said Gus was his favorite guy in the house. They remained pretty good friends throughout the rest of the series, although Aimee wasn't fond of Gus' behavior while in Montana.

Mattie[]

Gus and Mattie were friends, having met while on the show, The Challenge together. Mattie invited him and the other roommates to help work her booth at St. Pete Pride. It doesn't take long for Gus to turn on her for taking Jeremiah's side of their feud. However, when Jeremiah breaks Mattie's heart, Gus is there to support her. They remained good friends throughout the season despite their differing views on the feud.

Trivia[]

  • After the series ended, Gus had a public falling out Nilsa and Candace. Nilsa, Candace, Aimee, and Jeremiah are the only members of the cast to not follow Gus on social media, and vice versa.
  • Codi was the only cast member to attend his wedding. Kirk claririfed that he was invited as well but couldn't make it.
  • Aside from Kortni, he was the only cast member to not attend Nilsa's wedding.
